How much ammo is too much ammo?

How much ammo is too much ammo?

I always chuckle when I see on the news that the cops found 500 rounds when they searched a house. The news anchor guy reads the line in a deep voice and his sexy female co-anchor squeals “Oh my! That sounds like a lot!”

This is a box of 525 rounds of .22 long rifle, the most popular plinking caliber for rifles and pistols.

You can easily hold it in your hand.

Early on in the ammo shortage a few years back I made several orders for cases of .22 long rifle. Each case had 5,000 to 5,250 rounds, depending on the manufacturer. Everything was backordered at the time and prices were starting to go up so I made the biggest bulk orders I could find and promptly forgot about them. I figured maybe I’d get one or two of them before they were cancelled.

Well, I got four. The first case came about a year later and when the dust settled I got over 22,500 rounds from those orders, all at less than $0.03 per round, all in.

My wife rolled her eyes about the whole thing but I didn’t mind.

By the time the orders started to arrive, the cheapest you could buy in bulk was about $0.07 per round. And that was before shipping (many places have started to charge for shipping), taxes (the good old days of no taxes on the internet are over), and FFL fees (I live in Kalifornia and now we have to use FFLs for out-of-state ammo purchases).

500 rounds? What a joke!

Fitness -Survival-Shooting Gregg Kielma Instructor Being or becoming a good shooter is one thing, but having the ability to survive a life-threatening situation is another. All the time I see these amazing shooters that are physically in poor to marginal condition. To be a survivor, you need to focus on the whole package not just one part. I call this the 4 Tiers of Survival. • Tier 1 - Physical Fitness (4 hours) • Tier 2 - Dry Fire Training (6 hours) • Tier 3 - Taser Training (4 hours) • Tier 4 - Live Fire Training (8 hours) Today we are talking about Tier 1 because I think this one is the most important. I’ve seen good shooters fall apart after being physically stressed. I’ve seen martial arts buckle once pushed out of their physical comfort zone. Everything we think we are good at should be tested after you are physically stressed. Then you will find out how good you really are and what you need to work on to increase your physical capacity. Here are a few things you can do to make sure you are ready for any situation: 1. Hit a workout at least 3 times a week 2. Get out and move for at least 30 minutes to an hour EVERYDAY. This means walking, running, hiking, bike riding, or something physical that you enjoy. 3. Include elevating your heart rate into your dry fire and live fire training If you decide to join us at one of our Tactical K Training and Firearms get together’s, we will push you to see how well you can shoot once your heart rate is elevated and you're breathing hard. Whatever you do, just make sure you are taking care of yourself and not neglecting what you can handle physically. It could make the difference between life or death one day. Next time we’ll talk about and set up classes on dry fire training, to follow with Taser/Stun gun training and finally tactical combat against an intruder or perpetrator. How are there 8.5 to 12 million people that own assault rifles in America? A CNN article cites this number. My understanding is that only military personnel have legal access to assault weapons of any kind, and that the government issues these guns. Gregg Kielma CNN is indeed full of it, per usual, and your “understanding” is incorrect as well. First off, because there is no national gun registry there is no way to know who or how many people in America own guns, or how many guns there are. Best estimates place the number of gun owners in America at about 81 million people; in 2022, about 45 percent of U.S. households had at least one gun in their possession. The total number of guns in America is estimated at 393 to ~420 million, or 120 guns for every 100 people, and over 14 trillion rounds of ammo. That's far more than all the standing armies on the planet. “Assault weapon” is just a sensationalized term used by the anti-gun Left and their obedient media mafia, all of whom are ignorant about firearms, civic, history, and the purpose and intent of the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights. “Assault” is an act that can be performed with a gun or a knife, a rock or a stick, an axe or a hammer, baseball bat, bottle, cane, golf club, golf cart, car, truck, or fisticuffs. Know this: Assault is already illegal, yet it happens. Robbery, rape, and murder are all illegal, and yet they still occur with monotonous regularity. More laws will not change this...even if written in all caps. Also know this: The entire purpose of the Second Amendment is literally to ensure weapons of war in the hands of the citizens. ALL Americans have the constitutionally guaranteed Right to keep and bear arms — ALL arms, including actual military weapons of war, which the AR-15 is not. No military on Earth uses the AR-15, which is technically a semi-automatic sporting rifle.

Is New York Proof That Gun Control Works? Author: Anonymous Chuck Schumer a New York resident has a pistol permit. I have personally seen Michael Bloomberg with his bodyguard of at least nine men all over 6 foot 3. He stands at five foot one. Guess how many of his bodyguards carry guns? If you guess all of them, congratulations, you are right! New York City is a wonderful place to disappear, courtesy of the automobile-- one may be carried off to a wide variety of places to be disposed of. So, to say that they have a low death rate is not quite true. Sorry I meant murder rate. Additionally, it has been shown multiple times that the NYPD is very good at concealing crime committed and at underreporting crime. Multiple times I have seen crimes occur that have not been reported and a few times I have intervened, one of which I know for certain was swept under the rug. So never trust the figures coming out of New York City. And believe me there is plenty of crime-- I have fended off assailants more than once and that was never reported. The police do not want to know about what they would call near-miss incidents. And as a matter of fact, one time that I was being stalked by muggers I made them think I had a gun and one shouted to the other that I was armed, and they both ran very quickly. So having lived in the belly of that beast for 16 years, I can tell you that the gun control laws there are a failure, unless of course you're one of those politically connected people who has managed to obtain a carry permit.

Why Am I Not Allowed To Have A Loaded Gun In A Gun Store? Gregg Kielma Well….. it’s more nuanced than that. Concealed permit holders tend to be so well-behaved gun store owners don’t mind if you bring your concealed gun in, just keep it concealed. If open carrying, then don’t ever reach for it unless asked. Always ask the store owner or manager if it’s ok to have a loaded firearm on your person. What they are trying to avoid is the idiot who walks in needing ammo for his Colt & Wesson 9 mm .38 Special, in his hands, with finger on the trigger. Odds are damned high the gun is loaded too. Guys like that are invited outside for a little explaining about not ever coming back until they learn basic safety rules. It’s up to the owner - my local store simply says don’t bring in loaded guns for trade or repair. If it’s loaded and you simply can’t unload it, then wrap it up say in a towel and when you hand it to the clerk tell him it’s hot, you are physically unable to unjam it to remove the round and let them take it from there. You can’t pull the trigger on a gun well wrapped up. In fact, it’s a great idea to always wrap up a gun before you bring it in. Holding one in anything looking like a conventional manner is going to attract unpleasant attention!

Firearms Training What’s Your Thoughts? The federal government is under the impression that American gun owners can’t shoot or are not trained properly. Ammo is expensive. Your time is precious and so is your family. As far as training is concerned, call Tactical K Training and Firearms Gregg Kielma and look at all the courses he teaches that you can take or are interested in. Everything from proper cleaning courses, first aid fundamentals and how to effectively be the winner if your life is threatened by a bad guy, women, or IT. Kielma’s thoughts. Is the family “gun guy” “cop” or you name it, are they the ones you want to trust your shooting and training skills to? The right answer is probably not. You want a USCCA certified trained firearms instructor like Gregg Kielma who understands training and how to identify exactly what you need to become a better-informed firearms owner and shooter. As a firearms instructor living in the USA and like every other American, we own firearms. It’s ok to be a legally responsible firearm owner. There is nothing to be ashamed of. It’s our duty as a firearms owner to train and know how to use the firearm, when to use the firearm and how to use it in self-defense. As I teach my students, the firearm is only a tool. A roofer can’t put a roof on unless he knows how to use a hammer through training and repetition. Same goes for your firearm. The more you practice the better you become. Find a great USCCA firearm instructor like Gregg Kielma, get the training, and then practice. It’s your duty as a responsible firearms owner to understand how to use it, when to use it and stay safe with the firearm under your control. Why Do Gun Lovers Refuse To See That They Are Part Of The Problem? Author Anonymous I am the reason you won't ever be able to remove firearms from society. Me, and people like me. I'm a veteran. I'm a nurse by temperament and training. I'm closer to the end of life than to the beginning. I've never been arrested. I'm generally a rule follower, even when the rules are stupid. But I absolutely refuse to comply with any registration or confiscation of any kind. You won't be getting any new laws. Firearms restrictions are going to be fewer in number and less in severity for the next generation or so at least. SCOTUS seems to have rediscovered the Constitution. Existing laws are going to be thrown out and gutted. Don't believe me? IL passed an “assault weapons ban”. It got a complete injunction within 2 weeks. NM declined to pass an AWB this past session. The Dems said “why bother? The courts will just overturn it” The Biden administration's reinterpretation of “receiver”, intended to restrict privately made firearms, has an injunction against it and they're readily available again after a couple of weeks hiatus. Court decisions upholding California's magazine ban and AWB have been vacated and remanded back to the lower courts to be redecided considering Bruen. They're dead, just waiting for the gears to turn. You want to protect children and reduce violent crime? Gunowners will be your enthusiastic ally in this endeavor. Let's do what works. Let's guard our children. Let's prosecute straw purchasers. Let's make the punishment for use of a firearm in a crime of violence both certain and severe. I'll be keeping my firearms. Every one of them. There's not a damn thing the goverment can do about it.

Should We Limit The Magazine Size On All Semi-Automatic Weapons To A Maximum Of Three Rounds? Oklahoma, OK, (CCW Magazine) “Three Oklahoma teenagers were killed last week when they broke into a house and were met by a homeowner with an AR-15. Now the grandfather of one of the teenagers is speaking out about his grandson's death. According to KTUL-TV, Leroy Schumacher, grandfather of 17-year-old Jacob Redfearn, believes the death of Redfearn was unjustified because the homeowner's AR-15 gave him an unfair advantage over the three burglars. Speaking to KTUL, Schumacher acknowledged that breaking into a house was "stupid," but death was not the appropriate consequence. "What these three boys did was stupid," Schumacher said. "They knew they could be punished for it but they did not deserve to die." "Brass knuckles against an AR-15? C'mon. Who was afraid for their life?" Schumacher said.” Another one: “PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA/Gray News) – A homeowner in Florida fired an AK-47-style gun at three invaders in self-defense, officials said. According to Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons, one person has been arrested in the case, but officials are still looking for the other two suspects. The home invasion took place just before midnight on July 7. The incident was captured on home surveillance video. At least one of the suspects was armed, as seen in the video. Simmons said the suspects forced their way into the home. The homeowner had a handgun, but it was wrestled away by one of the suspects. The homeowner then ran to another room to grab another weapon. “The homeowner went and got an AK-47-style gun, and he started shooting for his own protection to get them out of his house and to protect himself,” Simmons said. The three invaders are seen on video running away after the homeowner began shooting. Officials said the homeowner will face no penalties for acting in self-defense.” Another one: “Around 8:20 PM on the night of July 10, 2019, four men broke into a veteran’s home and attempted to rob him. The criminals were armed, but unfortunately for them, so was the homeowner. After being woken by a loud noise, the homeowner grabbed his AR-15 to defend himself. The homeowner told deputies that he doesn’t remember who fired first, but he and Keith Jackson Jr. exchanged gunfire. It is unclear how many rounds were fired. But in the aftermath, two of the criminals were hit and so was the homeowner.” Yet another one: “It happened in Lithia, about 25 miles outside of Tampa. Jeremy King said two masked men entered his home, pointed guns at him and his 11-year-old daughter, and demanded money. He said the two men then began pistol-whipping and kicking him when he said he didn't have any. King said his wife, who is eight-months-pregnant, heard the commotion and opened the bedroom door to see what was happening. One of the robbers then shot at her. That's when she grabbed the semi-automatic rifle and opened fire.” Another one: “AUBURN, Ind. (WANE) — An Auburn homeowner shot two suspected armed intruders dead and held two more at gunpoint early Sunday.” I could keep going, but why? Gun grabbers make it seem like a defender will never face multiple attackers, when the reality is that wolf packs are growing increasingly popular. Three rounds? I suppose you would prefer it if a defender had to reload during a fight for his/her life. Perhaps you’re with that granddad who believes a gun with a “high capacity” magazine gives a defender an unfair advantage over their attackers. “If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics are poor,” Gregg Kielma. Tell what you think?

Why A Shotgun Is The Best Home Defense Weapon! Gregg Kielma Firearms Instructor, FFL and Gunsmith Gregg Kielma thoughts; Self-defense training often includes practicing shooting multiple times in quick succession because assailants can sometimes continue their violent actions even after being injured. Shotguns, with their wider firing pattern, can be effective in stopping threats, even in the hands of inexperienced individuals. Another advantage says Kielma. "The rounds will typically not leave your home. With bullets the chance of penetrating walls and leaving your home is substantially lessened". A close-range shotgun blast to the torso (see picture) can incapacitate an attacker and end the confrontation faster compared to other weapons. The shotgun's ability to fire multiple times with each trigger pull gives it a unique advantage in home self-defense. Let me know what you think.

Why Are Most Guns Recovered in Mexico Traced Back to The USA? Author: Anonymous The big lie by the Obama administration was that 90% of the guns recovered in Mexico were traced to the USA. They used that statistic to imply there was a serious problem with guns being illegally smuggled from the USA to Mexico. The truth of the matter was something else. Mexican authorities recovered a lot of weapons from battles with the drug cartels. Most of the weapons recovered (about 75%) were non-US made guns, like AK-47, FN-FAL, Vz-58, and similar military rifles. Mexico did not submit the serial numbers of these guns to the US for tracing as it would be fruitless. These fully automatic firearms aren’t sold in the USA. Mexico only submitted firearms made in the USA for tracing. Most firearms are marked with their country of origin via a stamping that says “Made in ______” which helps trace the origins of small arms. Of the gun serial numbers submitted for tracing to US authorities over a 4-year period (2007–2011), about 66% were traced to US sources, according to the BATFE (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives). But the story doesn’t end there. Of those identified and traced, over half were M-16 rifles provided to Mexico by the U.S. Government. In other words, the US provided M-16 rifles to the Mexican military directly, and they “disappeared” from Mexican government custody, either by cartels raiding armories or bribing armory officials. I’m working from memory here (on my laptop away from my home computer), but as I recall from previous work on this subject, of all weapons seized by the Mexican government, only about 25%-27% were US made and of those, just over half were military rifles supplied directly to Mexico by US “foreign aid” programs. Commercial firearms, the kind you can buy in any US gun store, accounted for less than 10% of all guns seized. Just to add insult to injury, the BATFE, the agency responsible for enforcing most of the US federal gun laws, was actively aiding gun trafficking to Mexico. Allegedly, the BATFE wanted to “follow the breadcrumbs” by allowing the sale of weapons in border state gun stores and then follow the guns into Mexico to unravel the smuggling ring. This project was given the code name Fast and Furious. Several border area gun shops were coerced into allowing BATFE to install video cameras so they could see the buyers. BATFE intercepted background check calls and authorized sales to known gun runners so they could allegedly track the guns. But BATFE would trace them to the border but were told not to cross the border. Thus, once across the border the guns “vanished” to law enforcement. It’s important to note that the BATFE did this without notifying Mexican authorities which meant there were no Mexican agents to pick up the trail south of the border. Several thousand guns were permitted to cross the border unchecked. BATFE was not allowed to notify the US Border Patrol nor the Mexican authorities to intercept the guns. Either this was the biggest clusterfuck operation the BATFE ever did, or, as many people believed, an attempt to bolster the number and percentage of US made guns recovered by Mexican authorities. If successful, it could have allowed the Obama administration to justify even more gun control laws. Sadly, two weapons permitted to cross the border were later recovered after one of the weapons was used to kill Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry. After that incident the truth started leaking out slowly. Eventually there were some congressional hearings over it, with the U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder being charged with Contempt of Congress for refusing to cooperate with the oversight committee.

ATF Director Steven M. Dettelbach and President Joseph Biden Biden Administration and ATF News Private Firearm Sales and the Consequences Says FFL, Firearms Instructor and Gunsmith Gregg Kielma. “If you have a firearm you want to sell to family or friends take them to an FFL and he or she will do the paperwork and keep you within the law. Continues Kielma, “the cost of the paperwork at our shop is inexpensive compared to possible going to jail and becoming a convicted felon, and never again being able to own a firearm. It’s just a matter of filling out the ATF 4473 and doing a background check. Nothing more nothing less. Is it an infringement on our Second Amendment asks Kielma? The courts will need to determine this very confusing new law”. Please read the report below to understand the new process and how it may or may not affect you. Not knowing or understanding the law isn’t an excuse. If you have questions, please feel free to call us. 888 880-5444 ask for Gregg. T he Report The Biden administration has been aiming to label regular gun owners as "gun dealers" by criminalizing those who sell their firearms privately. Additionally, Biden's Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms is trying to enforce his covert plan to target law-abiding gun owners. A recent report from the National Rifle Association's Institute for Legislative Action highlighted a change in the definition of a "gun dealer" brought about by the 2022 Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. The bill, signed into law by Biden on June 25, 2022, removed the requirement for a "livelihood" motive in the definition, leaving only the "profit" aspect. This alteration implies that any gun owner selling a firearm to a friend, family member, or neighbor could now be classified as a "gun dealer." As a result, they may be obligated to obtain a costly gun dealer license and could face legal consequences for not conducting a thorough background check on the buyer. The regulations proposed by the ATF are expected to have a chilling impact on gun owners. The NRA-ILA expresses concern that if the ATF starts arresting and prosecuting individuals for simply selling a gun to a friend, it could create a dangerous precedent and essentially prohibit private gun transfers. Additionally, these rules aim to empower the ATF to conduct civil forfeiture actions to seize firearms, ammunition, and profits from gun sales. In response, several states have filed major lawsuits to challenge this aggressive anti-gun move by the ATF and the Biden administration. Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach has initiated one of these lawsuits and has garnered support from 21 other state attorneys general to uphold the Second Amendment rights. "Biden’s latest attempt to strip away the Second Amendment rights of Americans through ATF regulations will make many law-abiding gun owners felons if they sell a firearm or two to family or friends," Kobach said in a news release about the suit. "This rule is blatantly unconstitutional. We are suing to defend the Second Amendment rights of all Americans." Kobach cautions that the new regulation could turn millions of law-abiding citizens into criminals overnight. According to Kobach's press statement, the ATF's rule mandates that individuals must acquire a federal firearms dealer license for any transaction that the ATF deems as profitable, whether it involves currency, exchanging another firearm, or providing gunsmithing services. "It could make a felon of a gun hobbyist who sells a firearm to another family member or of a hunter who trades a firearm with another hunting buddy," the AG's press release explained. "Until now, those who repetitively purchased and sold firearms as a regular course of business had to become a licensee… This rule would put innocent firearm sales between law-abiding friends and family members within reach of federal regulation,” the court filing reads. “Such innocent sales between friends and family would constitute a felony if the seller did not in fact obtain a federal firearms license and perform a background check." Attorneys General from multiple states, including Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Idaho, Iowa, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming, have joined Kobach's lawsuit. Additionally, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has initiated legal action against the Biden administration, accusing the government of overreach. In a news release, Paxton stated that he is suing the federal government for unlawfully infringing on Americans' constitutional right to engage in private firearm transactions. "The ATF’s regulatory restrictions go beyond the authority granted to the agency by Congress. The new Final Rule is arbitrary and capricious and is a flagrant violation of the Second Amendment. Attorney General Paxton is seeking immediate injunctive relief to stop the ATF from enforcing its unlawful edict while the issue is considered fully by the courts," Paxton said in his news release. Paxton further argues that Biden's revised definition of a "gun dealer" would unfairly label hundreds of thousands of law-abiding gun owners as potential criminals simply for selling a single firearm to a friend. "Yet again, Joe Biden is weaponizing the federal bureaucracy to rip up the Constitution and destroy our citizens’ Second Amendment rights," Paxton said. "This is a dramatic escalation of his tyrannical abuse of authority. With today’s lawsuit, it is my great honor to defend our Constitutionally protected freedoms from the out-of-control federal government." Utah, Mississippi, and 23 additional states have united in support of Paxton's legal action, as mentioned in the news release. These attorneys general, representing over half of the states, are justified in their stance. Biden and the ATF are leveraging their authority to establish regulations that undermine the Second Amendment and potentially criminalize numerous Americans for exercising their right to own and carry firearms. The ATF's contentious regulations are a covert attempt to undermine our Second Amendment freedoms, and it is imperative to confront this encroachment on gun rights.
